About the Artitst
I have been painting
and drawing for as long as I can remember! Holding a BFA and a MFA, I
have always taken art as the central focus in my life. I am grateful to
painting as it is my pursuit and my way of life.
My works cover still
life, landscape and custom portrait. My goal as a representational painter is
to attempt to reflects the beauty and mystery
of the things I paint and also presents the interaction between the objects I
paint, their shadows and the surrounding space as light travels over and
amongst them.
Beginning with my
initial choice of objects, to the placement of those articles, to the
management of light and shadow , I try to establish a balanced composition of
shape and color, contrast and depth. I attempt to use light to sculpt and emphasize
color, texture and space, and to foster a feeling of air within the piece. The
deep, often neutral color of the backgrounds in my works helps creating
heightened drama and a sense of mystery from which I hope to make my chosen
elements literally glow.
I hope not only to
create a pleasing arrangement of pretty things, but also to create balanced
details from the use of well-focused
light to allow the viewer to appreciate the beauty I see in them with mystery,
harmony, serenity and sheer joy!
